How we can help you

New Zealand

Managers and staff in Government and community sector organisations are finding that what they expect does not always happen in the ‘new normal’ coming out of a disrupted decade. We no longer operate in a controllable, stable, predictable or certain environment. Conundrums abound.

Complex situations need new ways of thinking to gain cut through to find better alternatives.

Pragmatica works at the intersection of evaluation, research and facilitation. We draw on complexity theory to offer new perspectives to traditional methods, but we don’t use a lot of jargon.

Our style of facilitation helps you navigate through puzzling situations to make wise choices. We ask important questions to explore seemingly intractable situations. We help you find new perspectives, to gain a clearer understanding of your situation to enable action.

We work with our clients in a range of ways:

Evaluation

As experienced evaluators we:

  • undertake an external evaluation project, where we build a team to complete it

  • work as a contracted member of your team, developing an evaluation from existing data already collected by your organisation

  • provide additional support to an internal team to undertake an evaluation, with particular focus on the use of rubrics and sensemaking processes

  • provide peer review of an internal evaluation.

Research

Consider us to:

  • undertake an external research project and build a team to complete it

  • work as a member of your team, developing research from existing data already collected by your organisation

  • provide peer review of an internal research project.

Facilitation

Pragmatica facilitates workshops on a range of topics. Many are related to evaluation, research or commissioning or contracting out for services.

We work either as an external facilitator, or as part of an internal team. We have expertise facilitating both in person for face-to-face engagements and online using Zoom.

Our style of facilitation helps you navigate through puzzling situations to make wise choices.

Training

We provide specialist evaluation related training on a range of topics for central and local government, community organisations and NGO’s. Training topics include:

  • building evaluative thinking capacity

  • use of rubrics in evaluation

  • use of sensemaking techniques for good decision-making

  • use of complexity theory for contracting out services

  • ways of assessing the strength of relationships for contracting out and for programme development

Mentoring and Coaching

Pragmatica provides mentoring on specific aspects of conducting evaluation or research projects, such as developing rubrics, running sensemaking sessions, and general project management for complex evaluation or research projects.

We also provide mentoring on different aspects of being a consultant, negotiating funder/provider relationships and on running a consultancy business.

Case Studies

We are skilled in preparing potent case studies

A case study is a powerful tool for monitoring and evaluating complex programmes and policies.

Our 15+ years of research and evaluation experience have honed our skills in identifying and highlighting successes and learnings to demonstrate the value of a programme. We look to illustrate proof points of change or impact validation for both new and ongoing programmes.

Our case studies are recognised as clear, concise and well-structured, providing a valuable resource for programme stakeholders.
